Four Victims Wounded at Howe Community Park — Large Unauthorized Party Erupts in Gunfire





Saturday night, a large unauthorized party of an estimated several hundred individuals at the Howe Park area in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area turned violent when 20 to 25 gunshots filled the air as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were in the process of removing people from the park.

How Events Unfolded

At approximately 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department was alerted concerning persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the park. An additional caller described a possible altercation and people leaving the area quickly.

An airship was called in and scanned the park but was unable to locate the reported fight.

At the same time, a large crowd had collected at the park for what officials called an unauthorized gathering. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies formed a perimeter around the park, activated emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse using public address systems.

As deputies were in the process of dispersing attendees, between 20 and 25 shots rang out — causing hundreds to flee in every direction.

Victims of the Shooting
